# AIS Milestones

## Your JSON payload may contain destinations which are unexpected. Here's why!

With the introduction of AIS tracking, which is vessel-level tracking, there is far more data being included in many payloads than previously.

This can mean that your container's journey, which previously only showed milestones including:

- a Port of Origin
- any transshipment ports
- a Port of Destination

Your payload will now show additional stops that the vessel is making even if the container is not removed from the vessel.

This is a normal function of AIS and is not of concern.

We have ensured that these milestones have a **source: AIS** included in each one, so if you would prefer that they not appear in your final data, you can filter them out by removing any milestones which have that source.
